About Oleksii Horban

E-commerce solution architect and fractional CTO based in Valencia, Spain, certified as an Adobe Commerce Architect Master.

Oleksii Horban

Merchants bring me in when nobody clearly owns the platform decisions behind their store. I decide what gets built and what gets bought, and how the store connects to its sales channels and back-office systems. Then I write the roadmap that puts the work in order and set the code-review standards that the in-house team and outside vendors both work to. You get decisions you can explain to your leadership and a plan your engineers can follow. My services range from a fixed-scope review to a monthly retainer as your fractional CTO.

The depth behind those decisions comes from 17 years in e-commerce, all of them on Magento and Adobe Commerce. I started in 2009 in Magento Inc.’s original Expert Consulting Group. There I led an 11-engineer team on the Easton-Bell Sports deployment and a 4-engineer team on Longines for the Swatch Group, and I was on call for urgent escalations. From 2015 to 2023 I was Principal Adobe Commerce Engineer at Guidance, working on 8-figure-GMV stores such as The Great Courses. Typical page-load times on those stores came down by about half.

Since 2020 I have owned the technical roadmap at Teabloom as their fractional solution architect. Seven sales channels run there on one catalog and one inventory, next to a dedicated B2B wholesale site on Adobe Commerce. At MarketNation I lead a three-engineer team on a deeply customized Adobe Commerce build and set its roadmap and code-review standards. Alongside this work I have completed more than 60 projects on Upwork since 2011, with a 100 % job success score and Top-Rated Plus status. The case studies cover The Great Courses, Teabloom, MarketNation and my time in Magento’s Expert Consulting Group.

What I am good at

  • Turning business goals into technical roadmaps that non-technical leadership can act on
  • Owning architecture decisions across PHP, GraphQL, headless storefronts and cloud infrastructure, and reviewing delivered code against those decisions
  • Setting code-review standards for in-house engineers and outside vendors
  • Running one catalog and one inventory across your own store and marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart, Etsy and TikTok Shop
  • Performance work judged by its effect on revenue, with Lighthouse scores as a secondary check
  • Integrations: ERP (NetSuite, SAP), payments (Stripe, Braintree, Authorize.Net, Amazon Pay), subscriptions (Zuora, Stripe Billing), fulfillment and accounting (ShipStation, QuickBooks)

How I work

My engineering workflow runs on AI coding agents, Claude Code and Codex, with custom skills, hooks and MCP integrations. Audits get faster and code review more consistent. I help client teams adopt the same setup.
